The diploma :

Abitur is an examination, sometimes so called " examination of maturity ", who concludes " the secondary higher education " (obere Sekundarstufe) which cross the pupils in Gymnasium .

Gymnasium :It is the name of the high school in Germany, but it is rather a German equivalent of the middle school and the French high school, because we enter it towards the age of 11 years and the best cross their Abitur in 19 years.

Historic origin of Abitur :

The high school diploma as the qualification for higher education was introduced in 1788 in Prussia into the humanist high schools.

The certificate of Abitur contains an evaluation of the performances in the basic class and in the " class of performance ": Grundkurse und Leistungskurse.

The high school diploma is considered as received if in each of three sectors the pupil obtained at least 100 points (on 300 possible points).

There is no single Abitur common to all in Germany :

It is necessary to know that, contrary to the French High school diploma, German Abitur changes Land in Land, city in city, .

Every school has the right to organize Abitur in its way. Rules common to all Abitur exitent, but they are not many

Exemple of abitur :

Le Zentralabitur :Zentralabitur is Abitur among which the tests(events) and the notation are the same in all Bundesland where it is awarded.

La Hochschulreife : Hochschulreife is the proof of the capacity to be followed by higher education .
