Stuttgart 21, a project to debate

Stuttgart 21 is a railway and urban development project in Stuttgart, Germany. With the new railway Wendlingen–Ulm, the project is also officially called Stuttgart-Ulm. The project was officially announced in April 1994. Construction work began on 2 February 2010. As of March 2013, total costs are officially estimated at 6.5 billion euros, the previous estimate being 4.5 billion euros in 2009. Heated debate ensued on a broad range of issues, including the relative costs and benefits, geological and environmental concerns, as well as performance issues.

The Stuttgart-Ulm rail project consist of several aspects :
  • The reoganization of the Stuttgart rail
  • The high-speed connection from Wendlingen to Ulm
  • The construction of several new stations
  • An extensive urban development

It will be build :
  • -Approximately 120 km new railway with maximum speed of 250km/h
  •  4 new stations
  •  A mostly underground rail ring system witch allows trains to enter the new main station from both sides
  • -Two completely new city quarters in Stuutgart
  •  Improvement of the mainline and commuter rail system

Benefits of Stuttgart 21:

The train station will be more bigger. That will be a monument for germans. They could travel faster between cities. Stuttgart 21 will attract more tourists. The Stuttgart station will not be the terminal station. It will be an high-tech station

Inconveniants of Stuttgart 21:

That will destroy the habitations around the train station for enlarge this one. That will more and more expensive on the long term.

What germans think about Stuttgart 21:

It is a sensitive project so that was difficult to gather some informations from citizens.
But we can deduce that the  citizens think that the money used for this project is a waste of money. Many houses will be destroyed for the construiction of the stations and railways.
75% of the people we asked the questions was agreed for the project, but some peoples, most likely the citizens of Stuttgart really don't want the project to be a success because of his unworthiness and incoveniants.
