Stuttgart 21
Map of Stuttgart 21 |
Stuttgart 21 is a project of extension and renovation of the
railroad network. The principal aim is to shorten the travel time
between Stuttgart and the other cities of the network, like Ulm, and
to the airport. So this project imply a lot of works, like the
construction of new tracks, tunnels and underground tracks and
highspeed tracks. Finally 57km of tracks will be created, 16 tunnels
and 18 bridges.
But all of these works are also really expensive (EUR 6,5 billion) and it creates, in a crisis period, a lot of consternation for some people.
But the price is not the only reason, there is also the ecological impact that create indignation to the people.
So we asked to the inhabitants to know what they thought about this project, here are theirs answers:
We also interviewed a young woman who wanted to stay anonymous and she was for this project because, she wasexasperate by the blocking of the road and of the trainstation made by the "antis".

How do we live in Stuttgart ?
For this section, I asked to two inhabitants of Stuttgart few questions:
How do you spend your time?
- We are big fans of football, we used to practice boxing and, as you can see (he shows us the guitar that he carries on his back), we are also playing music in the street to earn a little bit of money.
Is there any wey to recycle in Stuttgart, is the recycling encouraged?
- Yes of course we have bin for that and we also have machines with wich you can put an empty can and the machine gives you back coins.
Is there any help for the students in Stuttgart?
- Yes but it's not a help that comes from the city, but it's a help of the state and it's only available for the public universities. But there is no help for the accomodation or for these things.

Review of the trip
Before the trip, I was a little worried becaus I also did this year with the European Section a trip to Madrid where we were really free, we could go out the night (maybe not always with the teacher's advise ^^) and when I heard that this trip will be more "restricted" I thought that it will be work 24/7, waking up at 6 o'clock and sleeping at 9 P.M, welle something of really rude and boring. I was totally wrong, this trip was really enjoyable for a lot of reasons. First of all I really appreciate every visit that we did, especially the visits of the Mercedes-Benz Museum where I learnt a lot about the cars and where I could admire a lot magnificient vintage cars. I also enjoyed the architecture of the Porche Museum, that was really elaborated and beautiful. I also loved the free times, speaking to the people in the street, asking them how they live in this country and comparing with our lifestyle was really interesting and the inhabitant of Stuttgart were really pleasant and helpful. I spend my nights playing Werewolf with my friends and it was really fun and probably better than being in the street because in Germany everything is closed sooner than in France.
As a conclusion, I really enjoyed this trip and if I could do it again, I would.
